15 September to 16 September
IOW 2012 Report
On Friday 14th September it was off to Portsmouth and over to the Isle of Wight where 9 Panthers and their owners plus 2 without a car were staying.
Saturday saw us all depart early to get our favored spot on the quay at Newport where we put on a display of 10 cars (as one was staying elsewhere on the Island). The weather was kind to us with a light wind and sunshine. The range of cars on display was varied and of a good quality. As the day wore on we got a visit from the organizing committee and the Purple flip painted Mk1 Lima was presented with the best in show prize for Newport Quay. At the end of the show we all headed back to the Barns for a barbeque and more wine.
Up early on Sunday for the drive over to Ryde and on to the esplanade to set up for the next show. The weather was not as good today as the wind had picked up a bit, but it did stay dry. There were a lot of people strolling up and down the promenade and once again we got a lot of interest. We were visited by the owners of the 2 panthers on the island. After the show 7 Panthers went back to the barns for more food and wine the other 2 (first time IOW attendees) had gone to the ferry ports and headed back home.
Monday saw us have a relaxed breakfast and discuss what we were going to do the rest of the day. We all went off in small groups but arranged to meet later. Some went off to visit the Pepperpot which is a 14th century Lighthouse (1328). The views from the top were spectacular and you could see the whole of the island. After that we went down to St Catherine’s point to the new Lighthouse. We then went on to meet up with the rest at 4.00pm in Shanklin for our annual game of crazy golf. The course had been completely renovated since last year and was won buy our oldest driver. That evening we went to a pub in Ventnor.
Tuesday saw more cars leave to go home and the rest went to Cowes for a look around and lunch in Gurnard Bay. Leaving just 3 cars behind which were all staying until Thursday and going straight from the IOW ferry to the French ferry.
