Gawsworth Youngtimer Car Show - 31th Mai 2021

Our first Show for nearly 2 years! We have been coming to the Gawsworth Classic Car Show for over 15 years now. About 5 years ago the organiser of the Gawsworth Show, normally the early May Bank Holiday, added a Youngtimer Show on Whit Monday at the end of May. This was for post 1970 cars so could split the attendance across two events as the original was getting quite popular. We were allowed to stay with the early May show so stayed out of loyalty. Owing to the Government Pandemic schedule, the early May show was cancelled, thus we were invited to the Youngtimer Show.

I always go over the day before the Show to mark out our pitch, usually among the bluebells but this can be a bit shady. This time I managed to negotiate an upgrade to the Chamomile Lawn!

We got there about 9.30 and erected a gazebo, although with the glorious weather turned out we didn’t need it. I received a message from Rob Harrison that his Lima was on the hard shoulder of the M62 having been chucking out smoke and oil, so that was one down.

Pete Varney arrived late with a good story. He had come down from Harrogate and set his sat nav for Gawsworth. As he got near, here were signs for ‘Classic Car Show’ so naturally he followed them.

Arriving at the Show entrance, he said, “Is this Gawsworth?”, They replied, “Nope, this is Capesthorne Hall Car Show, but you can come in if you pay £5”

“No Thanks”, replied Pete, “I’ve already paid £5 to Gawsworth. How do I get there?”.

“Don’t know” was the reply, which was a bit surprising as they are only 5 miles apart! The guy on the gate was obviously not a local.

So with Pete that made a Magnificent Seven- along with Geoff & Jane Jones, Alan Shaw, Mick & Gwen Underwood, Paul Burgess and Steve & Janet Mercer along with ourselves. I had noticed that Paul and Steve lived not far from each other. Turned out when introduced, they were old drinking buddies who hadn’t seen each other for 40 years! Small World….Ah, the re-uniting power of the Panther Car Club!

As always, lots of interest in Panthers. One couple said, “We saw some Panthers a couple of years ago at the hotel we stayed at in Soissons for the Laon Historique” Well that included us, I said, let me show you a picture of my car that would have been in the poster for last year’s event… more small world coincidences…

The warmth and sunshine continued all day and we had a great picnic. Thank you everyone for coming.  Great to see everyone again and a good start to the new season. Great to be back
