Panther Area 9 Welsh Tour based at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & Spa May 14th to May 17th 2019 (3 nights).

We now have reached our maximum number of participants. 25 Panthers and 50 guests. Thanks everyone for your support. This is the most supported Area 9 tour ever.

Area 9 are pleased to announce preliminary details of our 2019 Tour.

The 2019 Tour will be based at The Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Spa in Powys, Wales
Dates – Tuesday 14th to Friday 17th May 2019

Provisional booking for ten rooms have been made under Panther Area 9 – Elwyn Thomas

Details of the Vyrnwy Explorer  package are below-

  • Three nights of country house elegance
  • Three spectacular welsh breakfasts
  • Dinner in the award-winning Tower Restaurant on one evening
  • Dinner in the delicious Tavern Brasserie on another evening
  • Enjoy strawberries & cream with a glass of Prosecco on one afternoon
  • Go exploring to one of our chosen attractions
  • Take a complimentary packed lunch with you on your day out

Garden View: £498 (13 available)
Lake View: £558 (11 available)
Premier Lake View: £648 (6 available)

Rooms are to be booked directly with the hotel. But please confirm with me that you have done so. You can see that there is limited availability of the Premier Lake View rooms. First come, first served.  The Lake View rooms are very nice also. I have stayed in one of the Garden View Rooms, nice and comfortable missing only the view of the lake.

Take a tour of the hotel here

We would suggest that we take the Tavern Brasserie on the Tuesday evening and the Tower Restaurant on the Thursday evening for our farewell dinner.

This leaves Wednesday evening free. Our proposal is we have a full day out to Portmeirion Italianate Village, taking a two course lunch at Castell Deudraeth which gives us good parking, complimentary mini-bus to the village and free entry.

This would be less expensive than paying for entry and buying lunch at the village and parking amongst other visitors. ( I know how precious our Panthers are to us)

Sample lunch menus and details of the Castle can be found here.

A provisional booking has been made for lunch.

We will take a scenic route to and from Portmeirion and aim to be back at our base by early evening.

There will be plenty of free time Tuesday and Thursday to enjoy the Spa and Hotel facilities. The walk around the lake is level and quite spectacular. For the petrol heads there are plenty of superb driving roads.

We do hope that you can join us .

John and Sue Morrissey Email;

I am pleased to say our Italian trip itinerary is all but complete with the
main stumbling block being the Motorail time table. I have left out the
exact days of travel as Motorail have no timetable available for trains from
Dusseldorf to Innsbruck for 2020, but it will be from early June. However
they have offered a preliminary hold on car space and compartments prior
to the train timetables being announced. Hopefully I will be able confirm
dates in the coming week and publish asap. We are limited on numbers as
our convertibles have to travel on the lower deck so it will be first come
first served basis. The cost is yet to be finalised and at the moment
everything is quoted in Euros and with a fluctuating exchange rate the final
quote will be in Euros. At this present time the price for the hotel
accommodation B & B from day 2 until and including day 15 is costing in at
approximately EUROS 1035 per person in a Twin/Double room but this may
vary slightly up or down when final dates are available. To be added to this
will be the cost of the Motorail which will include a private compartment
for 2 with some facilities and breakfast plus the car transportation, at again
an approximate cost of Euros 466 per car each way. This does include
accommodation overnight and a big saving on fuel.

Spain 2020

Will this be the Ultimate, we’ve had the Penultimate, or will they keep on going?
The 2020 trip has received a suggestion to visit Toledo for a few days, this city has a huge history especially with regard to the Spanish Civil War. Whilst in that part of Spain we can then go across to Ciudad Rodrigo for three days to revisit Mogarraz and the Batuecas-Sierra de Franca region and national park, about 30 miles from Ciudad Rodrigo.
The current plan is to depart from Plymouth to Santander and drive south to Toledo with a stopover at Valladolid(1 night). After staying in the parador in Toledo which has an amazing view over the city (3 nights) the tour will then go west to Ciudad Rodrigo (3 nights). From here to Toro (4 nights) where club member Nicola already has an itinerary in mind including a day trip to a village near Leon.
We finish the tour in the Picos de Europa at the Del Oso Hotel (5 nights).

Dates are: Depart Plymouth for Santander
21st.JuneDepart Santander for Plymouth 8th.July
arriving Plymouth 9th.July.

Cost for the complete trip with the 20% early booking discount for the car, two people, Club4 cabin both ways and B&B in all hotels will be about £2200. To secure your place contact Kathy Venn on 01752 635324. A deposit will be required which will also secure the discount.
