The Panther J72 was the first product of the Panther Westwinds company, sold from 1972 through 1981. It was an ultra-exclusive luxury roadster intended to compete with the best of the 1970's motor industry. It was styled like the Jaguar SS100 and offered with the 3.8 L and 4.2 L XK engines. The J72 was a success for the small company with its Connolly coachwork beating Rolls-Royce at the 1973 London Motor Show.
This 1977 Panther J72 is one of the rarest classic autos; factory built in England with a custom handcrafted aluminum body. Styling is from the 1937 Jaguar SS100, but this car runs circles around the original. This Panter J72 was one of the last models built (VIN #680) featuring a powerful 4235cc 4.2 liter Jaguar in-line 6 cylinder engine with a rare automatic transmission, 15" real chrome wire wheels with rear spare, wilton wool carpets, leather seats, wood dash, twin carbs, 28-gallon fuel tank, disc brakes, twin overhead camshafts, independent front suspension, power steering, and more. The Brooklands model was made during 1987 to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Brooklands racing circuit. The Brooklands special edition models were all specified with a full leather interior and stainless steel grilles. The particular feature of the model were the hand-painted ‘Brooklands’ motif on the doors and the embossing of ‘Brooklands’ on the internal door panels instead of ‘Kallista’.
This car was built for the Panther Car Company as a ‘Show Car’ and is believed to be the first Brooklands special edition to be produced, in January 1987(copy of actual factory build record included).
The car was specified in BMW Polaris Silver with interior in matching grey leather with black piping. Numerous factory options were specified including all the stainless steel ones, wider wheels, radio/cassette and ‘Cobra’ seats. The car has a grey mohair hood and cover and stainless exhaust silencers. All the underside chassis is waxoyled. New MoT. Plenty of history including old MoTs. Full body cover included.
This an extremely original car with bodywork commensurate with its age and mileage. Mechanically is has always been extremely reliable. Current owner for last 8 years.

I have owned this car since 1995 and have covered 70,000 miles over the
last 12 years (total mileage now 105, 000).
Her registration number is B620 KPA and she has been fully serviced every
year. She starts first go and has never ever let me down
Brake fluid is changed every two years, coolant every year etc. She has had a new battery (first one in 12 years earlier this year) and a new heater matrix. A new gearbox and clutch about five years ago. She is taxed and has a current MOT that lasts until April 2008.
The body work is good but inevitably there are dinks and dents due to her age. The tyres are good and she is perfectly happy going on a 500 mile journey (with small trailer to France) as she is pootling about locally.
She has an engine immobiliser,veneered dashboard, spotlamps, chrome running boards, towing bar, stainless steel exhaust and a good Blaupunkt radio / cassette player. She has always been kept in a dry garage and seldom run in the wet.
If someone wants her for concourse condition then they might want the seats to be reupholstered and the bodywork re sprayed.
I have every bill since I acquired her, she only had 2 owners before me and was first registered in September 1984. She has never had an accident and has always been cared for in a way that my other cars have not!

2000cc Cosworth turbo-charged engine, four-wheel drive.
During the last two years the car has had new tyres, battery, hoses, brake pads, cam-belt and various other components fitted (sensors etc). Genuine 29,000 miles from new this car has only had three owners. It was bought one year old by Jim Loveday of Stroud and Cirencester Motor Clubs and used very successfully by him for PCTs over a period of twenty years. When I bought the car in 1999 it was in need of some TLC and I wanted to make the car suitable for road use as well as the occasional PCT and Classic Car Trial. I have several silver and bronze awards from the MCC events also Class 5 awards in S & DMC Classic Trials. Liz and I have just completed 1,800 miles through England, Wales and Eire on the 2006 Grand Cape to Cape Tour organised by Dennis Greenslade of MCC fame.
An enormous amount of work has been done on the car by Ian Moss and myself to make it reliable in everyday use, some of the major changes are listed here.
