Drive It Day 2008
Panther Car Club Join's in with the FBHVC’s Drive It Day 20th April 2008
Five members of the Panther Car Club had arranged to tag onto a pre organized run being held by the Tamar Historic Transport Club, we met at the Liskard Cattle Market where around 40 other cars had arranged to meet, at 10.00 the first groups set of on there journey to Marazion and St Michaels Mount, home to the St Aubyn family for 300 years. Despite the weather forecast of rain coming in from the west most of the Panthers set off with their hoods down as the sky’s were quite clear with just a few scattered clouds, during the one and half hour drive to Marazion the clouds would come and go and those that set off with their hoods up eventually put them down at a comfort stop in Tuckingmill near Camborne.
As we approached Marazion on the A30 to Penzance we could see St Michael’s Mount rising from the sea, for those that have not visited this part of the world, the view is quite breathtaking. We arrived at the car park and joined our fellow travellers.
Once again we split into small groups for a walk across the causeway to the mount, the DID run had been organised around the local tide times to make the walk across possible, once on the island we split into smaller groups, some to explore the island some to visit the castle and church others to visit the café for refreshment in the form of locally made Cornish pasties and to take in the wonderful views of the Cornish coast.
During the afternoon some drivers started to make there way home on this lovely sunny day whilst others remained and enjoyed a walk around the old town of Marazion followed by a visit to a beach front hotel to soak up some of the late afternoon sun and refreshment.
