IOW 2013 Report

On Friday 13th September it was off to Portsmouth where we met Bob Clare in his Kallista waiting for the ferry over to the Isle of Wight. We then led the way to the Barns where we were staying. After settling in to our rooms Bernard, Bob and us went for a drive across the island to Steep Hill Cove where we had Crab sandwiches for lunch looking out over the sea. The sun came out while we were eating and it made it a nice afternoon. We made it back to the barns before it rained. As the forecast was not very good we swapped our regular Friday barbeque to the Saturday night and had the Chili pot instead with all 16 of us sitting down for the meal.
Saturday saw us heading into Newport Quay early to get our usual spot to display all 10 Panthers. The weather was dry and everyone went in to town for shopping and lunch. In the town there was a display of Vintage motorcycles which were having a rally in the IOW as well. The rain put in an appearance at 4.00pm so it was up with the roofs and after a little while back to the barns. It stopped raining after a couple of hours and we had our BBQ Expertly cooked by Sharon and Tony. We were joined that evening by some of Ray and Val’s friends who were also attending the shows.
Up early on Sunday for the drive over to Ryde and on to the esplanade to set up for the next show. The weather was not as good today as the wind had picked up a bit, but it did stay dry until 3.00pm when the heavens opened with a vengeance and everyone started to make their way home bring the show to an early end. There were a lot of people strolling up and down the promenade and once again we got a lot of interest. The range of cars on display was varied and of a good quality, this year there was a car made from recycled parts with a 2CV as mum and a fork lift truck as dad providing the electric engine. It also had many other household objects being used for all sorts of things. The owner had a list on a sheet asking if you could find these various parts, the answers were on the back. After a meal back at the barns we had to leave and catch the 8.00pm ferry home.
On Monday the rest went off in small groups to explore the Island before meeting up again at 4.00pm in Shanklin for the annual game of crazy golf. Everyone left on the Tuesday to make their way home.
